We congratulate Gabe Borisuk, RN, the 2018 KDH recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses. Nominated by his peers, Borisuk was honored for his energetic attitude, for his ability to engage with patients, and for his exceptional nursing skills. As noted in his nomination ... "There is true care with every touch, heart-felt compassion in his discussions with loved ones, such great knowledge displayed in his nursing skills, great positive attitude, and a love for what he does as seen by all."

As an Emergency Department (ER) nurse, Gabe Borisuk cares for a wide range of patients, often in critical situations that require focus, attention, and communication. He has been a Registered Nurse at King's Daughters' Health since 2013.

His 2018 DAISY Award nomination read in part ...

Gabe from the ER has shown excellent nursing skills and great compassion on many different occasions. I have watched him display amazing care for his patients. He has been called to our department numerous times to help and he does it with an energetic attitude. He re-evaluates situations and understands how things change quickly and reacts appropriately. He is eager to learn and understand everything that is going on with his patient. He is so engaged with his patients that he wants to understand the why's and how's. His assessment skills and bedside manner are above most. He keeps his patient's family informed. I was privileged to witness Gabe's skills first hand. I was called to assist with a patient in the ER, which was a child with a dog bite. Gabe and I took care of this young child in the back of an ambulance as we assisted on the transfer to Kosair. Gabe displayed such compassion to this family as he is a young father himself. He went above and beyond to kept the parents informed about what we were doing and where we were going; then he talked to them again when we got to Kosair. There is true care with every touch, heart-felt compassion in his discussions with loved ones, such great knowledge displayed in his nursing skills, great positive attitude, and a love for what he does as seen by all.

The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care given by nurses every day. King's Daughters' Health is proud to be a DAISY Award partner. The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes who died of complications of an auto-immune disease at the age of 33. During Pat's eight-week hospitalization, his family was awestruck by the care and compassion his nurses provided Pat and his family. Learn more at www.daisyfoundation.org.
