Cancers we treat in Madison

Norton Cancer Institute – Madison treats a wide range of cancers, allowing most patients the opportunity to stay close to home during the treatment process. This is a huge benefit for patients, who often receive treatments on a recurring schedule. Reducing travel time makes it easier on the patient and their families. Some of the cancers we treat at NCI-Madison include:

  • Breast Cancer
  • Colon Cancer
  • Esophageal Cancer
  • Leukemia
  • Liver Cancer
  • Lung Cancer
  • Lymphoma
  • Melanoma (skin cancer)
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Rectal Cancer
  • Renal (Kidney) Cancer

Comprehensive Care – Medical and Radiation Oncology

Cancer care is personal and designed specifically to meet the individual needs of each patient. Norton Cancer Institute – Madison provides both medical oncology – including chemotherapy and immunotherapy – and radiation oncology. Patients may also qualify for national trials through Norton Cancer Institute.  Radiation therapists integrate targeted therapies to improve results and reduce side effects. Highly targeted radiation is designed to destroy cancer cells or keep them from growing and dividing. Targeted therapies allow our team to deliver higher doses of radiation while protecting healthy tissue. Patients receive one-on-one education sessions with a certified nurse or radiation therapist before treatment begins. This is a great time to ask questions.

Support Persons

NCI-Madison encourages patients to have a support person with them during the infusion process (for medical oncology patients). This support person can be a spouse, family member or friend. Support persons must be at least 18 years of age.

Support Services

  • Financial advocate – Most treatments involve working with insurance companies in advance. We provide patients with a financial advocate who takes care of this process and works with patients and families in advance to answer questions. To contact the financial advocate, call (812) 801-8974.
  • Convenience medications – Thanks to generous donors, we have a fund to help patients purchase convenience medications at little or no cost. Typically, these medications help with side effects. Please let one of our team members know if we can assist you.
  • Massage therapy – We are fortunate to offer massage therapy sessions throughout the treatment process. A licensed massage therapist is on-site several days a week to provide light-touch massage. Massages are available at no charge, thanks to the support of our community.
  • Snacks and refreshments – We are able to offer patients and family members a variety of snacks and refreshments during the treatment process. We can also order a meal from the hospital cafeteria during breakfast and lunch hours. Generous donations make this possible.
