4D Ultrasound

New parents are always excited to meet their baby.  Now, parents can view incredible images of their baby before he or she is born thanks to amazing 4D Ultrasound technology.

Parents may invite up to 10 family members and friends to share in the 4D Ultrasound experience.  Images are displayed on a flat-screen television.  For an upfront fee ($125), moms and dads receive up to an hour of one-on-one time with an ultrasound technologist.  Parents receive a CD of still images from the 4D session - creating memories that last a lifetime.

Appointments are scheduled in the evenings.  Please call 812-801-0440 or 801-0686.

Note: 4D Ultrasounds are scheduled for OB patients who are between 28 and 32 weeks of their pregnancy and have completed a routine OB ultrasound exam that has been interpreted by a physician.  As 4D Ultrasound is not considered a medical procedure, images are not interpreted by a physician.

Frequently Asked Questions about 3D/4D Ultrasound ...
What is the difference between 3D and 4D? - 4D is a live view of your baby.  You can see the baby move on the screen.  When this is frozen to take a picture, it becomes a 3D image. You will be able to see the baby in 4D, but the images on the CD given to you are in 3D.

Can this take the place of my routine ultrasound? - No. A 3D/4D ultrasound exam is for entertainment purposes only.  It is not a diagnositc test looking for abnormalities.

Is it safe? - Extensive studies over 30 years have found that ultrasound has not been shown to harm mother or baby.  3D/4D uses the same sound wave intensity as regular 2D ultrasound.

Is 3D/4D covered by my insurance? - Unfortunately, insurance does not pay for this service.  Payment needs to be made at the time of service.  We accept a variety of payment methods.

What do I need to do prior to my appointment? - Arrive 15 to 30 minutes prior to your appointment to complete paperwork so that we can use your entire appointment time for your ultrasound.  If your prior (diagnostic) ultrasound was not performed at KDH, please bring a copy of the results with you. If you do not have gestational diabates, please drink juice prior to coming to your session as this will improve the chances that your baby will move around.

May I bring family members and friends to the appointment?
Absolutely.  We do ask that you liimit the number of family members and friends to no more than 10.

How much does it cost? - There is a $125 fee payable before the ultrasound begins.  You will receive a CD with still images from the session.  The exact amount of time needed for the session will depend on how cooperative your baby is at the time of the appointment.

Are there limitations to the pictures taken by 3D/4D Ultrasound? - There are times when the baby's position (face is down/ arm or leg covering face), amniotic fluid, and gestational age can affect the outcome of the images.  Most often, we do not encounter this problem.  If we are unable to obtain any images due to these circumstances, you will be able to return once within a two-week timeframe for another attempt at no charge. However, after the second attempt - even if we cannot obtain any images - the appointment concludes.  Refunds are not available.

When is the best time to have a 3D/4D Ultrasound? - The optimal time is between 28 and 32 weeks of gestation for single babies.  For twins, the optimal time would be between 26 and 30 weeks of the pregnancy.  Please call if you have questions.
