Laboratory Services

Direct Access Testing

King's Daughters' Health offers Direct Access Testing for several routine blood tests. Direct Access Testing is available at the Outpatient Services Desk on the first floor of the hospital or at any KDH physician office location.  A complete list of available tests is listed in the chart below.

When is Direct Access Testing available at the main KDH Lab?
Monday - Friday | 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Saturday | 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

NEW - Direct Access Testing is also available at any KDH physician office location - Versailles (Tyson Street); Vevay (Switzerland County Med Bldg - Dr. Frede); Carrollton, Trimble County Medical Building, Hanover Medical Building, Clifty Drive Medical Building.  When arriving for Direct Access Testing, talk to a KDH representative at the main desk.

Important information for Direct Access Testing

Arriving for Direct Access Testing (DAT at the Hospital): If you are arrving at KDH for Direct Access Testing, please go to the Outpatient Services Desk on the first floor of the hospital. Once you've selected which test(s) you need, a volunteer or staff member will direct you to Patient Registration for payment.  When completed, a member of the KDH Laboratory staff will come and get you to complete the blood work.

Payment for Direct Access Testing: Payment is required at the time of service. We cannot bill Medicare, Medicaid, or your personal insurance provider for Direct Access Testing.

Who benefits from Direct Access Testing: The program is ideal for patients who need to routinely monitor their cholesterol, blood sugar, thyroid, or other blood levels. It's also beneficial for patients who need easy access for a medical drug screening or MRSA bacteria test. Please call the Lab at 812-801-0178 if you have specific questions.

Some advantages of Direct Access Testing:

  • Participants do not need a physician's order.
  • No appointment is required.
  • Results are mailed directly to participants unless they request that results be sent directly to his/her physician.

Direct Access Testing is for screening purposes only. King's Daughters' Health recommends that you seek physician interpretation for all laboratory testing. Results will be mailed to you. Results will also be available to all KDH Medical Providers. You may request that your results be sent to another licensed health care practitioner at the time of service. Please provide this information when completing the standard DAT screening form.

Critical Values: In the event one of the blood tests you've selected through Direct Access Testing indicates a critical value—a reading (level) that could immediately impact your health status - you will be contacted via a phone call from the KDH Laboratory. You will then be responsible for contacting your physician or medical provider for follow-up care.
