The Medical Oncology team at King's Daughters' Health provides a wide range of Oncology/Hematology services for patients throughout the Ohio Valley region. The KDH Cancer Treatment Center is affiliated with Norton Cancer Institute. Physicians from Norton Cancer Institute include Dr. Shawn Glisson and Dr. George Goldsmith. KDH also employs its own full-time nurse practitioner, Andrea Casey, at its cancer center. Ms. Casey works directly with patients every day to ensure exceptional cancer care.
Various types of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy medications are provided, specialized to meet the unique needs of each individual patient. Cancer treatment plans are developed by cancer specialists using the latest protocols and information. Nurses and care providers assist physicians with the implementation of these plans throughout the course of treatment. Many patients with blood disorders are also treated through the Medical Oncology team at the Cancer Cancer. Appropriate patients may qualify for advanced clinical trials. Our affiliation with the Norton Cancer Institute provides us additional research activities and options. This is a huge benefit for local patients.
Certified Oncology Nurses (OCN's) at KDH help provide direct patient care. These remarkable team members are thoroughly trained in oncology care. Working together, our team of nurses work alongside the qualified oncology physicians from Norton Cancer Institute to provide cancer patients the same specialized services that are offered in much larger cities.
Full-time Nurse Practitioner
Nurse practitioner Andrea Casey (left) joined the KDH Cancer Treatment Center in April 2013. Having a nurse practitioner on site every day helps us deliver even better care for medical oncology patients. Ms. Casey talks with patients and helps coordinate care plans. She and the nursing staff work hand-in-hand to serve patients even better.
